Terms of Use

01This agreement

Attune is provided by Bars Opus of Accra, Ghana (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Attune you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you do not agree, please do not use Attune.

02Who can use Attune

• You must be 18 or older, and able to enter into a binding agreement.
• You may have one account, for yourself, signed in with a phone number you control. Keep access to your phone and your Attune PIN secure; you are responsible for what happens on your account.
• You may not use Attune if we have previously closed your account for breaking these terms, or if the law where you live does not allow it.

03What Attune is, and is not

Attune is a private space for two people in a relationship — a shared chat and tools to plan, play and reflect — with AI that helps you notice patterns in how you communicate. You can also use it on your own.

Attune is not therapy, counselling, or medical or psychological care, and is not a substitute for them. Its quizzes, insights, Pulse and Verdict describe patterns. They are not a diagnosis, a judgement of you or your partner, or advice to stay in or leave a relationship. Decisions about your relationship and your wellbeing are yours.

AI can be wrong. Insights are generated automatically and can misunderstand context, miss things, or be inaccurate. Use them as a prompt for your own reflection, not as fact.

04Safety, and emergencies

Attune is not an emergency or crisis service. It cannot assess an emergency, and it cannot contact the police, emergency services or anyone else for you. If you or someone else is in danger, call your local emergency number now.

Attune's safety features look for certain words and phrases linked to threats and controlling behaviour, and privately offer support to the person who may be at risk. They are best-effort: they will miss things and can occasionally misfire. Do not rely on them to keep you safe. Quick exit and the Attune PIN can help keep the app private, but cannot guarantee that no one sees it.

05Privacy and encryption

How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy. In particular, you understand and accept that:

• Attune is not end-to-end encrypted. Your messages are encrypted in transit and in storage, but our systems can read them, because the safety features and AI insights need to.
• Some features send content to our AI provider, Google, as described in the Privacy Policy. Features that read your partner's messages ask you both first.
• We will disclose content only when a valid legal order requires it, or to prevent serious harm. Your messages could, like any written record, be requested in legal proceedings such as a divorce or custody case.

06Using Attune with a partner

• You can invite one partner at a time. Once you are linked, you share one chat and a shared space; each of you keeps a private space of your own. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what each of you can see.
• Anything you send in the shared chat can be seen, kept and downloaded by your partner. You can delete a message for both of you only within 5 minutes of sending it. Please think about what you share.
• Either of you can pause or end the relationship in Attune at any time, without the other's agreement. A relationship paused for 30 days ends automatically.
• When a relationship ends, you both keep read-only access for 30 days. The chat is then archived, so neither of you can open it, and permanently deleted 12 months later. Save anything you want to keep with “Download my data” before then.

07Your content

Everything you write, record or upload (“your content”) remains yours. To run Attune, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, copy, process, display and transmit your content — including through the service providers and AI provider named in the Privacy Policy — only as needed to provide Attune to you and the people you share it with. This permission ends when your content is deleted, apart from copies we must keep by law or as set out in the Privacy Policy.

You must have the right to share what you share. Do not post other people's private information, images or words where you do not have their permission.

08How you must not use Attune

You agree not to use Attune to:

• Monitor, pressure or control another person — for example by forcing a partner to use Attune, to share their screen, PIN, journal or location, or by using the Couple Map or any feature to track someone without their free agreement.
• Threaten, harass, abuse, stalk, intimidate or humiliate anyone.
• Share intimate images or videos of anyone without their consent, or any content that sexualises, exploits or endangers children. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material: we will remove it, close the account and report it to the relevant authorities.
• Post content that is illegal, hateful, or promotes violence or self-harm, or spam other users, including in the community spaces.
• Pretend to be someone else, or open an account for someone else.
• Break, probe or overload Attune's systems, get around its limits or security, access data that is not yours, copy or reverse-engineer the app, or collect data from it by automated means.
• Break the law, or help anyone else do any of these things.

09Community spaces

Posts and comments in Attune's community spaces can be read by other Attune users. Be kind, and do not share anything that identifies you, your partner or anyone else. You can report posts that break these terms. We may hide or remove content and restrict accounts that break them, and posts reported by several people may be hidden automatically while we look at them.

10Price

Attune is currently free, though some features have fair-use daily limits. If we introduce paid features, we will tell you the price and terms clearly before you pay anything, and you will never be charged without agreeing first. Safety resources and safety alerts will always be free.

11What belongs to us

Attune — its software, design, name, logo, writing and content other than yours — belongs to Bars Opus and is protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Attune app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely.

12Other services

Attune works with services run by others, such as maps, the app stores, notification services, and links or videos you share from other websites. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for their content or how they work.

13Changes to Attune

Attune is a new product and will change. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something important to you, or ever stop offering Attune, we will give you reasonable notice where we can, so you can download your data first.

14Leaving, and suspension

You can stop using Attune and delete your account at any time in Settings. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone; the Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we must by law, or to protect someone from harm. Where it is safe and lawful, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. Sections about your content, limits of our responsibility and the law that applies continue after your account closes.

15Our responsibility to you

We build Attune with care, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. We cannot promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that its insights or safety features will be accurate or complete.

As far as the law allows, Bars Opus is not responsible for: decisions you make based on Attune; what other users, including your partner, do or say; losses that were not reasonably foreseeable; or indirect losses such as lost profits or opportunities. Our total liability to you for any claim about Attune is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Attune in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 US dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit, and nothing takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.

16The law that applies, and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana. If you have a problem, please contact us first at support@barsopus.com; most things can be put right that way.

If we cannot resolve it, disputes will be decided by the courts of Ghana. If you live in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country, and you may bring a claim in the courts where you live if those laws allow it.

17If you downloaded Attune from the App Store

These terms are between you and Bars Opus, not Apple. In addition:

• Bars Opus, not Apple, is responsible for Attune and its content, for maintenance and support, and for handling any claims about it, including product liability, legal compliance, and intellectual property claims.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Attune. If Attune fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may tell Apple, and to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for it.
• You confirm you are not in a country under a US government embargo, and are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Your use of Attune must also follow the rules of the app store you downloaded it from.

18Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Attune changes. We will change the date at the top, and if a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Attune after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.

19The rest

If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else; we may transfer ours as part of a reorganisation or sale of Bars Opus, without reducing your rights. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about Attune.
